Last weekend, we had the great pleasure of taking part in the official gala celebrating the 16 Equality Leaders 💜
The event marked the conclusion of the fifth edition of the Equality Leaders competition, organised by the Congress of Women Association and the British Embassy in Poland. The initiative aims to promote and empower women who, through their work, are transforming social reality, advancing gender equality, and making a real impact on the development of their communities.
This year’s edition highlighted the remarkable strength and diversity of women’s activism in Poland. Over 200 applications were submitted — from women working at the local level to leaders of initiatives with a broader reach. The candidates represented a wide range of fields, including health, senior policy, science, education, social action, and women’s rights advocacy. Each of them contributes in a unique way to building a more equal, supportive, and just society.
The gala itself was not only a moment to honour 16 outstanding leaders, but also an opportunity to meet, connect, and inspire one another. Activists, advocates, and feminists from across Poland came together — women who, in their everyday work, strive for social change, empower others, and build a more equal future.
The weekend programme also included a meeting at the British Embassy, as well as space for networking, shared conversations, training sessions, and the exchange of experiences. It was a time for getting to know one another, building relationships, and sharing practices from different parts of the country. There was also room for simply being together — joy, laughter, long conversations, and a sense of community that is so essential in social work.
For us, it was also an important moment of visibility. We had the opportunity to talk more broadly about what we do on a daily basis and to promote the activities that are particularly close to us — especially WenDo and women’s self-defence. This approach empowers women, strengthens their sense of agency, boundaries, and safety, and at the same time provides concrete tools for responding in difficult situations.
We are returning from this weekend with a huge dose of energy, inspiration, and new connections. Meeting so many committed women shows just how much strength lies in collaboration and mutual support.
Because when leaders from different parts of Poland come together, share experiences, and reflect on the future — space for real change emerges.
Thank you for this extraordinary time, inspiring conversations, and the opportunity to be part of this community.
