We have just spent an extraordinary and intensive weekend with members of the Lubusz Voivodeship Women’s Council. We had the pleasure of facilitating WenDo workshops on assertiveness and self-defence for women and girls.

It was a time filled with a sense of agency, courage, and mindfulness. Our work was energetic, dynamic, and proactive, while also leaving room for reflection, pausing, and building relationships. Women from across the region came together – local leaders active in culture, business, politics, and education. They came to build a community, empower one another, and develop a network of cooperation.

This gathering was not just a workshop, but also a space for sisterhood – for connecting, sharing experiences, and discovering our own strengths and resources.

What is WenDo?

WenDo is a method of assertiveness training and self-defence developed by women for women and girls aged seven and above. It is based on the belief that every person has the right to safety, personal boundaries, and respect.

During our workshops, we work on several levels:

  • with the body – learning stability, posture, and presence;
  • with the voice – strengthening communication, practising shouting, and learning to express dissent;
  • with the breath – developing self-awareness and emotional regulation;
  • with boundaries – practising assertive communication and responding when boundaries are crossed;
  • through physical action – learning simple and effective self-defence techniques, such as strikes, kicks, and escape techniques.

WenDo is an inclusive and accessible method, regardless of age, physical fitness, health, or nationality. Everyone can work at their own pace and according to their individual abilities.

As a Foundation, we pay particular attention to supporting women with migration experience, including women from Ukraine, by creating a safe space where they can strengthen their sense of safety and agency.

Lubusz Voivodeship Women’s Council

The Lubusz Voivodeship Women’s Council is an advisory and initiative-taking body that works to strengthen the position of women in the region. It brings together leaders from diverse backgrounds and supports initiatives related to equality, social development, education, and women’s civic engagement.

Initiatives like these make it possible to create spaces for meeting, exchanging experiences, and genuinely empowering women at the local level.
